Anticipation and excitement, words not often used within business, but these are the overwhelming feelings as we embark on taking on our fourth apprentice at Unified World Communications.
To give someone their first career opportunity is a privilege. We all remember where we started out and the people who helped to shape and mould us into who we are today. It’s an extremely rewarding experience to play a part in developing the stars of the future and at Unified World Communications, we have been working with a local training provider for several years now to provide opportunities for local people.
At Unified World, we have experienced first-hand the importance of regenerating and refreshing the workforce. The telecoms industry is a fast-paced and competitive environment and as such requires individuals who embrace the opportunity to work in a dynamic and pressured environment. These people are few and far between; some are naturally confident and tech-savvy, whilst others require a little nurturing and guidance.
With this, we embarked on taking on our first apprentice over eight years ago and believe it or not, they still work in the business to this day. Simon, was our first apprentice and is now Senior Account Manager, providing mentoring and guidance to others within the company. It fills us with pride and a sense of achievement that Simon continues to believe in Unified World and its people, products and customers. “My apprenticeship at Unified World has given me the opportunity to develop my work skills as well as knowledge of the industry; something I believe I wouldn’t have done half as well or as quickly if I had gone to University,” shares Simon.
Connor joined us in 2015 as a Customer Service Apprentice and has excelled ever since. In 2019, Connor was promoted to Account Manager and continues to develop this customer service, product and sales skills with the help of his colleagues and accredited training. “I had initially attended College and studied Computing, Economics and Business. Following the completion of the course I wanted to move straight into employment and Unified World provided me with the opportunity to develop both my technical and people skills” says Connor. “It’s been the best move I’ve made for my developing my confidence and career.”
Luke is a shining example of how an apprenticeship can provide the ideal opportunity for an individual to shine. Since joining us in 2018, Luke has frequently achieved Apprentice of the Month from the training company and is excelling on his IT telecoms apprenticeship. To put it simply, his progression has been outstanding over the year. The feedback from our customers has been nothing short of complimentary and having Luke around has given the office an extra buzz. We have created an opportunity for Luke to move up within the business which has allowed us to fill their role with a new apprentice.
Our latest addition to the team is Lee who has joined us on a Technical Support apprenticeship. “An apprenticeship appeals to me, because I can get hands-on experience and learn more about the working environment than I would at University,” shares Lee. “I am looking to build a career and an apprenticeship at Unified World will provide me with the opportunity to do this.”
